Fast Facts About Storyeum

Storyeum began with a vision to tell the spectacular stories of British Columbia's history for the people who live here and those who visit from around the world. Here are some quick facts about the project.

  • Storyeum means 'a place of stories'.
  • An exciting, new attraction, Storyeum features a series of underground theatres, elaborate stage set structures, dozens of talented performers as well as state of the art effects and lighting techniques.
  • Guests are taken through the venue on an experiential tour through time that is sure to enrich, educate and entertain as the rich history of British Columbia comes to life before them.
  • Storyeum is located in Vancouver's eclectic and vibrant Gastown, steps from the landmark steam clock. Gastown is the historic district of Vancouver, and the location of the first town-site. This charming area of the city features a rich mixture of cobblestone streets, century-old heritage buildings, restaurants, shops, galleries, and nightclubs.
  • Storyeum opens June 1, 2004 and will be open every day of the year.
  • Storyeum is a new 104,000 square foot underground venue. The size of six hockey rinks, Storyeum is located under the Gastown parking lot and features a history-themed restaurant and gift shop as well as meeting space for private functions.
  • Storyeum is owned by Historical Xperiences Inc. (HXI), a private Canadian company based in Vancouver, B.C. It specializes in designing, building, and managing heritage attractions that offer world-class storytelling experiences using actors, sets and effects. HXI's first attraction, The Tunnels of Moose Jaw, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan has enjoyed tremendous success.
